Webinar series: Streets for Kids
Designing street environments in which children and young people feel safe and comfortable is particularly challenging. Streets involve concrete interests and spaces that are already allocated but are now meant to be redistributed. Against the backdrop of climate change and new concepts such as the sponge city, as well as enduring priorities such as the quality of stay, the debate on street space is currently gaining momentum. The Global Designing Cities Initiative GDCI, an organisation based in New York, is committed worldwide to the transformation of street environments. Five years ago, GDCI published the handbook  Designing Streets for Kids; building on this, it launched the Streets for Kids webinar series this year. The next webinar will take place on 19 November and focuses on Promoting Cycling for All Ages. Previous sessions covered topics such as school routes, involving children in the design process, and cooler, healthier streets.Recordings are available online in English, Spanish and Portuguese. A handbook titled «How to Engage Kids in Street Design» is also available for download.
