Ponentino
During the warm summer days, the Ponentino, the Roman sea breeze, rises every day when the land gets warmer. A cool wind engulfs the Tibere plains, flies over the hills and tries to reach the city center. Traversed landscapes interact with the winds, warm it up, humidify or dry it, mixing the different layers of air. Every landscape plays a different role in the creation of the urban atmosphere and the balance of energy and humidity. The sea breeze is the main character in our perception of summer temperatures and urban experience in the hot city. Today, the sea breeze hardly reaches the center of the city, due to major urban developments between the coast and the center. Due to the increase in temperature, fresh air rises higher before cooling the city. How can we then perceive new kinds of interactions in between our territories and their atmospheres. The movie Ponentino is an invitation to follow the wind, from the sea to the mountains. An invitation to think about the city, the suburbs, the countryside, and all of our metropolitan landscapes as interconnected spaces among large aerial dynamics.
